Coimbatore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday morning (August 29) raided five locations in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. During the raids, the investigation agency seized laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, and pen drives.
The raids were conducted at the residences of Umar Farooq, Sanabar Ali, Sameena Mubin, Muhammad Yasir, Sadam Hussain, who have under NIA lens.
This came after the NIA arrested Mohammed Azarudeen in June. Azarudeen, alleged head of the ISIS Tamil Nadu module, was a Facebook friend of Zahran Hashim, one of the suicide bombers in the Easter Sunday terror attacks in Sri Lanka in April. Sheikh Hidayatullah was also arrested in the case in June.
Earlier this month, security was beefed up across Tamil Nadu following intelligence inputs that members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) have infiltrated into the state. The Indian Air Force (IAF) station in Sulur on Coimbatore’s outskirts has been brought under tight security cover.
The NIA, however, has denied any connection with recent inputs of terror group entering Coimbatore with the raids.
