Chennai: A 28-year-old man, Vadivel, on Tuesday choked to death after he ventured into a well to clean it. The incident occurred in Gudiyatham in Vellore, Tamil Nadu
On Tuesday morning, three men; Vadivel (28), Subash (26) and Bharath (25) ventured into a 30-feet deep well near their residence to clean it, as the well had not been cleaned for three years.
As they reached the bottom, they realised the state of the well and concluded that it could not be cleaned. They immediately tried to climb out of it. But halfway through their upward journey, the three workers fell unconscious.
Peranampattu fire service and rescue personnel reached the spot, pulled them out and rushed them to a nearby hospital where Vadivel was declared brought dead.
According to reports, Vadivel had been a manual scavenger for several years. He lived with his wife, Ranjini and their two children.
