Tamil Nadu: 21 patients suffer allergies from antibiotic injection

Ramanathapuram: As many as 21 patients in the district government hospital fell sick in the male ward after they were administered with Cefotaxime injection, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, late on Friday (July 19) evening.

According to reports, the nursing students administered the injection to patients in all the wards, including female and maternity wards, but 21 patients from the male ward, developed fever and skin allergies.

Further examinations in this regard revealed that those who were nursing wounds and being treated for diabetes had developed the problems.

The affected patients were administered with anti-allergic medicines and were able to recover from the allergies.

Later in the night, Ramanathapuram Collector K Veera Raghava Rao visited the hospital and enquired about the patients' health.
