For a long time, breaching the LoC was considered a strict no-no for both India and Pakistan. With both the nations possessing nuclear weapons, the mutual deterrence kept them from attacking each other in a conventional way.

But after the recent Balakot air strike in which Indian Air Force Mirage-2000 jets blasted off Jaish-e-Mohammad’s biggest camp, the equation seems to have changed.

What wasn't normal until now has become the new normal. India showed it does not hesitate to attack possible targets inside Pakistan to protect Indians from terror attacks. Observer Research Foundation (ORF) senior fellow Sushant Sareen explains what this means in terms of geopolitics.
