Sri Lanka: Trinco natives call for hartal seeking removal of Governor Hizbullah

Trincomalee: Natives of Trincomalee called for a hartal demanding the removal of Eastern Governor MLAM Hizbullah on May 10. Protests were staged over the allegation that Hizbullah was involved in propagating terrorism in the country. Meanwhile, shops remained closed and private buses also were suspended. The hartal was witnessed across Kantale, Thambalagamuwa areas, Serunuwara and in Trincomalee district.

Natives had hurled stones at a Sri Lankan transport bus and the bus tyres were set on fire in China bay areas and Uppuveli. Triforce, civil security and police were deployed for security in different places in the city.

Kanthale Pradeshiya Sabha member Vijaya Wickrama Lamahewa also commenced a hunger strike urging the removal of Governor Hizbullah.
