Ruchimudra: Kerala's first hotel run by transgender people, set to open in Kochi

Kochi: A group of transgender persons are all set to start their Ruchimudra hotel in Kochi in Kerala. Ruchimudra will run with the help of the Ernakulam district panchayat. Ruchimudra is one of the first hotels in the country which will be completely taken care of by transgender persons. One of the exciting factors of Ruchimudra is it will be complete make traditional cuisine that too only with organic vegetables and self-prepared spices.

Two transgender persons associated with Ruchimudra have years of experience as chefs in hotels before revealing their identity. The Ernakulam district panchayat had approved the Ruchimudra project and provided Rs 10 lakh for the construction of the hotel. The four-storey Ruchimudra hotel building is taken for a rent of Rs 70,000 per month. The building will also include an office for transgender people, shelter home, counselling and yoga centres. The social justice department will run the shelter home on a contract basis.
