Kakdwip: Arati Das and her two children were found taking shelter in a train as a result of sheer poverty. The trio were found sleeping inside the coach and their story has warmed the hearts of many.

30-year-old Arati Das was abandoned by her husband 15 years ago. She was left to raise her toddler son and infant daughter all by herself with hardly any money.

Her mother was kind enough to give her Rs 500 to start afresh and she decided to set up a fruit stall.

Her 14-year-old son Arjun, now in 7th grade studies in a government school during the day and returns to their makeshift home - the train. Arjun now aims to be part of the Army some day.

Their story grabbed the attention of the gram panchayat of the locality and help was immediately meted out.

The trio are now lodged at a health centre with a steady income of Rs 1,000 a month along with education.
