PM Modi, XI Jinping meet: Security along Tamil Nadu’s shorelines tightened

Security across the entire shoreline in Tamil Nadu has been tightened in preparation for the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Armed guards posted at all possible landing points on the shoreline

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu): The shores lines across Tamil Nadu including Rameswaram, have been brought under security blanket in view of the informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. 

The two leaders will be in Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram on October 11 and 12. 

As part of the State-wide tightening of security, the Indian Coast Guard and Marine police have tightened coastal security in coordination with district police by deploying men and armed guards at all possible landing points on the shoreline and enhanced patrolling in the sea to prevent any infiltration via the sea route.

The entire fleet in Mandapam Station, including hovercrafts, ships and interceptor boats, have been deployed for patrolling in the sea, said M Venkatesan, Station Commander, Mandapam Station. The Marine police have intensified patrolling and deployed men at the landing points.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena said 180 police personnel, including armed guards, had been deployed at various vital installations in the district as part of security enhancement. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out checks at Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, Pamban Rail and Road Bridges and other vital installations.
