NIA raids offices of PFI, SDPI in connection with Ramalingam murder

Thanjavur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted raids on PFI activists in Thanjavur.

The department has also searched offices of the PFI and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Trichy, Kumbakonam and Karaikal.

Ramalingam was killed In Tamil Nadu for allegedly opposing a group of Muslims, who were supposedly indulging in converting Hindus to Muslims.

The NIA team has collected details from the police with respect to the murder. The NIA is conducting raids on Popular Front of India (PFI) activists in Thanjavur. The department has also searched offices of the PFI and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Trichy, Kumbakonam and Karaikal.

Meanwhile, an NIA team from Cochin has also started conducting enquiries with the family members of Ramalingam. The team is also expected to conduct inquiries with the 11 accused, who are under judicial custody.

Ramalingam, a former member of the PMK, got into an argument with a group of men wearing Muslim skull caps. That evening, when he was returning home from work, he was allegedly attacked by a group and killed.

His son had filed a complaint with the Thiruvidaimaruthur police. The cops booked 16 people, of which 11 had been arrested.
