National Dengue Day 2019: Country shows signs of recovery but plenty of progress left

Bengaluru: While several people lost their lives fighting the viral decease across the nation, figures in recent times provide hope to people as the number of dengue cases have been on the decline. However, one cannot rest easy. In a bid to increase awareness of the dangers of the dreadful disease, the health department of Karnataka initiated a programme on National Dengue Day (May 16).

According to a press release by Health and Family Welfare Department, Karnataka, the number of dengue cases in the country reduced by 50% in 2018 when compared to 2017. However, the actual numbers are still high with 89,000 cases and 144 deaths recorded in 2018.
