The Varman dynasty was the first historical dynasty of the Kamarupa kingdom. The epigraphic records like the Dubi copperplate grant and Nalanda clay seal of Bhaskaravarman and Uttarbarbil and Nowgaon grant of Balavarman etc. show the evidences that the kings of Varman dynasty had their capital at Pragjyotisapura upto the middle of the 7th century A.D. or even later.
