Thiruvananthapuram: The state drugs control department in association with All Kerala Chemist and Druggists Associations(AKCDA) launched an initiative called PROUD (programme on removal of unused drugs) in the state.

Programme on Removal of Unused Drugs will promote scientific disposal of unused or expired drugs in the state.

Expired medicines are mostly put in the trash or in waterbodies, this causes chemical contamination of the environment. With this initiative, unused drugs would be collected and treated with biomedical waste. In the first phase, 150 collection boxes have been kept at select medical shops in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
