Kozhikode: Heavy rains have led to a flood-like situation in Kerala's Kozhikode district. In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am, Kozhikode has recorded 150mm of rain. The Indian Meteorological Department had issued a red alert in three districts of Kerala on July 19. The three districts are Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. 204 mm of excess rain is also expected in these districts.

The department also has announced a red alert in Kannur and Idukki districts on July 21. Fishermen living on the coast of Kerala and Lakshadweep area have been cautioned not to venture out to sea due to strong winds from the north-westerly direction reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.

Thousands had lost their homes along with their hopes during floods that ravaged Kerala in August last year.
