Kerala rains: IMD issues red, orange alerts in state

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert and orange alert in Kerala over the next few days.

Red alert has been issued in Idukki disrtict on Sunday (July 21) and Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram districts for July 22 (Monday). Orange alert has been issued for Kasargod from July 22 to 24.

Meanwhile, four people have died in various rain related tragedies in the last four days. So far, 89 people have been shifted to relief camps after few residential areas in Kannur and Kasargod were inundated.

Heavy rains continued in the forest regions of Sabarimala. River Pamba overflowed in some parts of the Pamba base camp .Fishermen living on the coast of Kerala and Lakshadweep area have been cautioned not to venture out to sea due to strong winds from the north-westerly direction reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
