Kottayam: The nuns of the Missionaries of Jesus congregation on Wednesday protested against the decision to transfer Vaikom deputy superintendent of police (DySP) K Subhash, who investigated the nun rape case against former Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

One of the nuns, who protested for justice, said, this transfer of the DySP may subvert the case as the trial was scheduled to begin soon. Subhash has been transferred to Idukki Vigilance. She demanded that Subhash be retained in the same post as it is a special case. She also expressed concern over the transfer of  Kottayam district police chief S Harisankar, who supervised the case. He has been shifted as the Kollam Rural SP.

The nuns also claimed that officials are trying to sabotage the probe against rape-accused Mulakkal.

Five nuns from a convent in Kottayam Kuravilangadu seminary had staged a protest on September 8, last year, in front of the Kochi high court against Mulakkal, who has been accused of raping the nun multiple times between 2014 to 2016. This might be the first incident in the history of churches where nuns have held a public protest.
