Kerala: Expelled Congress leader Abdullakutty officially joins BJP

New Delhi: AP Abdullakutty, who was expelled from the Congress in Kerala on June 3, officially joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Abdullakutty joined the party in the presence of BJP working president JP Nadda. MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar and minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan was also present in the function.  

Abdullakutty was dismissed from the Congress for praising PM Modi. In March 2009, he was dismissed from the CPI(M) for praising Modi, who was the then the chief minister of Gujarat. He had also praised Sheila Dixit, the then Delhi CM, for the “progress they had brought about in their states”. The Congress accepted him into the party after this. Abdullakutty said he is now expelled from the Congress for the very same reason.

On June 24, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Soon after, he met Amit Shah too.
