Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala state police chief Loknath Behera directed the district police chiefs in the state to ensure the police stations’ names are painted in Malayalam alphabets and the names of the police officers are printed in Malayalam. Presently, the names of the police officers are printed in English and certain police stations too are named in English.

The DGP gave the orders to make this proposal mandatory following the decision of the Kerala high court order. Kozhikode native Ummar had earlier filed a petition, and the court ordered to print the names of police officers and the names of police stations in Malayalam. According to reports, the police department issued the order and had sent the order to all the district police units in the state.
