Kochi: An ambulance driver, who ferried a 15-day-old baby from Mangaluru, has been praised from all around the world. The baby required a heart valve surgery and was taken from Mangaluru to Kochi by Uduma Mukkunnothu native driver Hassan in just five hours and 30 minutes, covering a distance of 420 km.

The ambulance bearing the license plate number KL 60 J 7739 ferried the baby of Kasaragod district couple Sania and Mithal. Initially, the ambulance was heading to a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, requiring nearly 15 hours to cover a distance of over 600 km but later it was decided to take the baby to a Kochi hospital.

Meanwhile, Kerala Child Protection team was live streaming the journey through Facebook Live to avoid traffic blocks and other issues on the way.

This is the second time that Hassan is taking the wheels for such a risky life-saving act. On December 10, 2017, Hassan took a cancer patient from Mangalapuram hospital to Thiruvananthapuram RCC, in eight hours and four minutes.
