Bengaluru: Ramesh Kumar, the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly disqualified three rebel MLAs - R Shankar, MLA of Ranebennur, Mahesh Kumathalli, MLA of Athani and Ramesh Jarkiholi, MLA of Gokak. He held that their resignations were not “voluntary or genuine” and claimed that they resorted to anti-party activities. The disqualification means that these MLAs can’t contest elections till the expiry of the current Assembly (May 2023). However, on the other hand, legal experts beg to differ saying that the anti-defection law doesn’t specify the tenure of disqualification. The disqualification order as #SimplifiedBy MyNation.
