Manipal: A wide crack was developed in the land at Manchikere in Manipal, Karnataka, damaging houses and wells in the premises. A similar crack was seen in 2014 too, but this time the crack is reportedly wide and has left people worried. The mines and geology officers have visited the spot. They suspect that sinking of the red soil might have caused the crack. However, as preventive measure, the panchayat officers have asked the people living in the surrounding areas to vacate their houses and shift to a safer place, till they find out the exact reason for the crack.
