Karnataka garment factory workers' protest takes ugly turn; angry mob pelt stones at police

Hassan: In a massive protest that broke out in Karnataka's Hassan district on Wednesday (July 24), more than 200 workers of Himmath Singh Garment Factory located in the special economic zone in Hassan, held a sit-in protest accusing the management of physical and mental abuse.

Despite the protest, the management failed to address the concerns of the demonstrators.

Reacting to this, the workers began to pelt stones at the security guards. Reports claimed that around 5,000 people joined the protesters and the Hassan Police were called immediately to stop the protest. Several police officials were also injured due to stone-pelting. The police later resorted to lathicharge. The police opened fire in the air.
