Bengaluru: MP from Mandya, Sumalatha Ambareesh has said that the Congress in Karnataka would have won at least 10 seats  (in the recently-held Lok Sabha election) if it had contested alone. "People have not accepted Congress's alliance with the JD(S). Even I tried to convince Congress the same, but they did not believe me," Sumalatha said. They listened to the JD(S) and lost the elections, she added. Though Sumalatha had sought ticket from the Congress to contest from Mandya, the party supported JD(S) candidate Nikhil and that made Sumalatha contest as an independent candidate. She won against JD(S) candidate Nikhil with a margin of over one lakh votes.
