Shrikanth Kari, who was in the coma for 17 days after being shot five times during the Shopian encounter, is all well now and has returned to his duty at the Jammu and Kashmir border.
Kari, who hailed from Karnataka's Hatalageri, joined the Indian Army at the age of 17 and since then has been serving the nation. During the Shopian encounter, the braveheart managed to gun down three terrorists, but also received fatal bullet wounds from the militants.
He was rushed to the army hospital for immediate treatment. Even at that state, he requested his fellow army men not to inform about his condition to his family.
Though the doctors managed to save his life, Kari went in the coma for 17 days. Luckily, his condition improved and he slowly recovered.
Kari was sent home on a two-month leave and his family came to know about the horrific incident only then.
Though his mother Shankramma and wife Suma were adamant of not sending him at the borders again, Kari was determined to join the service, especially after the Pulwama attack.
