In Guwahati airport, the IAF had deployed Russian origin Sukhoi, Su-30MKI fighter jet for testing and carried out take-off and landing operations.

To improve wartime preparedness, Indian Air Force (IAF) operated Sukhoi Su30 fighter jets from civilian airports in Bengal, Assam and Mizoram.

Eastern Air command of IAF carried out fighter aircraft operation from civil airfields of Guwahati, Kolkata and Andal.

The aim was to use the civil airport in case of any eventuality, validate the fighter operations procedure, familiarise the crew and pilots about the Air Field and coordinate with civil agencies for these operations.

This is the first time IAF is conducting drills from Guwahati or any other civil airfield in the northeast.

IAF fighter aircraft in the eastern part of the country mostly comprise squadrons of Sukhoi Su30 MKI fighter jets, which operate from military airfields in Tezpur and Chabua in Assam
