Here’s why states cannot refuse implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

The historic Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was passed in both Houses of Parliament earlier this week. The Bill is aimed at giving citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Buddhists, Jains and Christians from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

This has now led to protests in the states of Assam and West Bengal. A few states such as West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab have said that the legislation would not be implemented. But can a state refuse the implementation of CAB.
