Heavy rains lash Kerala, red alert issued in 3 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Kerala’s Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for August 8. Very heavy rain of over 240 mm is expected within 24 hours. The Palakkad district collector has announced a holiday for schools and other educational institutions on Tuesday (August 6).

Many places in Malappuram district are under water with some villages being isolated. The IMD also declared an orange alert in various districts from August 6 to 9, including in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kasargod, Alapuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kannur and Thrissur districts.
