Panjim: The Indian Coast Guard with the help of INS Hansa and Drishti (lifeguard services) saved a 26-year old army officer from drowning off the coast of Cabo de Rama in south Goa.

The army officer posted in Pune was on a visit to Goa. He slipped on a rock and fell into the water near the Cabo de Rama fort. Though the lifeguard present during the incident launched a jet ski in a rescue attempt, he was unable to reach the officer due to the rocky terrain. The lifeguard then threw a rescue tube to keep him afloat until help arrived.

The Indian Coast Guard control room pressed a helicopter from INS Hansa into service. Himmat Singh, air crew driver (ACD) of the coast guard team rushed to the spot and brought the officer to safety. The officer was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
