Giving the persecuted a home: Importance of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

While the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has faced much opposition, one must consider the motive of the government in providing relief and citizenship to those who were persecuted and fled neighbouring lands and are living without rights in India

The issue that the nation is debating today is the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The opposition is training its guns against the government and even says that it would move the Supreme Court against it. We discuss the need for the Bill that would not treat Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who have crossed over to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh as illegal immigrants outrightly and would provide them with some relief. We also take a look at the measures taken by the government to provide for exemptions from Bill as Simplified by Ajay Joseph.
