Farmers protest Cauvery Authority’s order to release water to Tamil Nadu

Mandya: The Cauvery Water Management Authority on May 28 instructed Karnataka to release 9.19 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu, in June. The order was issued in a meeting held in New Delhi where officials from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments took part. Speaking on the same, farmer leader Madegowda said that there is not sufficient drinking water for people of Mandya, so there is no question of releasing it to Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, farmers staged a protest in front of Sir M Visvesvaraya statue in Mandya against the decision of the Cauvery Authority. They shouted slogans and blocked the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway.
