Durga Devi, The Unsung Woman Who Helped Bhagat Singh Escape the British

On December 17, 1928, revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru shot Assistant Superintendent of Police John Saunders – the British Police officer responsible for the brutal lathi charge that had led to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. Following this incident the trio came to their ‘Durga Bhabhi’ for assistance. It’s been 72 years since India attained freedom, but yet very few people know the influence that Durgawati Devi wielded on these revolutionaries.
