They burned the effigy as a mark of protest after Congress general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi was stopped from visiting the victims of the Sonbhadra shootout. The protesters also said they “won't allow democracy to collapse”.

Priyanka Gandhi, after meeting victims at Varanasi, was scheduled to go to Sonbhadra, but she was stopped in Mirzapur by police officials who cited the violation of Section 144. The section prohibits the assembly of more than four people in the area.
