Bengaluru: Pro-Kannada outfits have warned Tamil Nadu for demanding the release of the treated sewage water of KC Valley project. Various Kannada organisations in Karnataka have warned of protests, sealing of Tamil Nadu border and also banning Tamil cable TV networks.
The treated sewage water is being diverted from KC Valley to parched districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapura. Praveen Shetty, founder president, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) warned of protests against Tamil Nadu for eyeing even treated sewage water. Shetty said that the pro-Kannada organisation will also seal the Tamil Nadu borders connecting Karnataka and ban all the Tamil cable TV networks.
Jagadish Reddy of Varthur Rising, said, “River South Pennar originates from Nandi Hills of Chikkaballapura and has a catchment area of 3,860 kilometre along Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. But the irony is that only Tamil Nadu has two reservoirs one in Hosur and Krishnagiri. Now due to drought and parched lakes of Kolar and Chikkaballapura, the government of Karnataka initiated the KC Valley project, where sewage that was being let in Varthur and other areas is being treated and diverted to these places.” He also said that Karnataka is not taking rainwater from the catchment areas instead of using it and opposed Tamil Nadu’s application in Supreme Court.
