Reang, also known as Bru in Tripura and Mizoram, are one of the 21 scheduled tribes of Tripura. The tribe is found all over Tripura and in parts of Mizoram and Assam. The new agreement would state that 35,000 Bru refugees settled in Tripura will be provided help for rehabilitation. In 1997, the Bru National Union made a resolution in which it demanded an Autonomous District Council. This was opposed by the government, following which some hardline elements launched an armed struggle.
