Kochi: Vishnu Somasundaram, former finance manager of deceased violinist Balabhaskar, and accused in the Trivandrum airport gold smuggling case, surrendered before the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The DRI had found that Vishnu coordinated and led the team accused of smuggling gold. The DRI will also probe if Vishnu used Balabhaskar’s international tours as a means to smuggle gold into the country. His was produced before the economic offences court in Kochi.
Balabhaskar and his family met with an accident at Pallipuram near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in the early hours of September 25. While Balabhaskar and his wife, Lakshmi were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, their 2-year-old daughter, Tejasvini, unfortunately, died on the spot. Balabhaskar died at the hospital on October 2.
