People have claimed that former Andhra Pradesh MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan and his family involve in illegal mining of sand, making the regions drought-hit. It is said that sand mafia is active in Vetapalem mandalam Pullipalayam revenue gram panchayat. Despite being a government site, officials are reportedly not taking any action against them. In a similar complaint, Chinnaganjam mandalam at Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh is allegedly facing illegal sand mafia since 15 years and the district administration has not taken any action. This inaction by officers has led to drought in the region.
