Mirzapur village, barely 8km from the main Aligarh city, is an epitome of communal harmony. Muslims in the village constructed a Shiva temple.

Not only did they construct and maintain it but also offered their prayers everyday. Constructed in July 2013, this Shiva temple is entirely managed by Muslims.

MyNation spoke to Pradhan Babu Khan, the husband of village pradhan Shama Parvin, who constructed the temple near the CDF police post with the help of other community members.

Khan said that he along with other Muslims of the area looks after the cleaning of the temple. The white tiled temple was constructed at the cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.

"The temple was constructed to keep alive the Hindu-Muslim unity and communal harmony,” Babu Khan told MyNation.

“We all humans are born equal. This is a Muslim dominated area so we had a mosque, but for our Hindu brothers I made a temple. We make sure the temple is clean all the time and we have made adequate arrangements. During each festival we make special arrangements, " said Babu khan who not only offers Namaz five times a day but also offers water to the 'Shivling'.
