Remembering The Fearless Sitara Devi Who Took Kathak To New Heights

A Padma Shree recipient, the legendary Kathak dancer Sitara Devi,  took the Indian classical dance form of Kathak to new heights. And the dance form has received constant appreciation from the current Modi government. From cultural gatherings, both in India and overseas, Kathak has found a prestigious place in the global landscape of dance.

Today on the legendary Sitara Devi’s birth anniversary we look back at how she shifted public opinion in favour of Kathak by perhaps being the first Brahmin woman to perform in public in the 1930s.
