Palembang: India was assured of a medal in women’s tennis at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia as Ankita Raina entered the singles semi-finals.

On Wednesday, Ankita, India’s number one singles player, defeated Hong Kong’s Eudice Chong 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter-finals. She wrapped up the match in 81 minutes.

Twenty-five-year-old Ankita clinched the first set in 54 minutes, rallying from 0-3 down and needed just 27 minutes to take the second.

With Ankita’s entry into the last-four stage, India will have its third ever medal from women’s tennis at Asian Games. She is assured of at least a bronze.
