4 naxals die of CoBRA bite, forest area cleared in Sukma

Raipur: An elite force of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday gunned down four naxals, including two women, in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The troop also recovered one INSAS and two 303 rifles during the search operation. 

Deputy inspector general (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P said that the gun battle took place at Karkanguda forest of Chintalnar-Jagargunda area close to the border of Sukma and Bijapur at 6 am on Tuesday.

The officer further informed that troopers of CRPF’s 201st battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were attacked by the naxals when they were cordoning off the forest area. The security force personnel retaliated efficiently. While four naxals were neutralised, others fled in the forest.

Luckily, there was no casualty report from the CRPF’s side.

On March 16, security forces gunned down two armed naxals in the Pedabayalu mandal of Visakhapatnam. 

Last month, at least 10 naxals, who were getting trained in a camp in Bijapur area, were neutralised by security forces in Chhattisgarh.

According to sources, the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Group (DRG) conducted the operation on February 7. 

The operation was the biggest of 2019 yet in terms of naxal casualties.
