Ulan-Ude (Russia): India’s Mary Kom had to settle for a bronze medal after losing in the semi-final of the World Women’s Boxing Championships here in Russia.
Though she lost in the semi-final, 36-year-old Mary had already created history by claiming her eighth world championship medal. No other boxer has managed to win eight medals in the history of the world championships.

On Saturday (October 12), Mary lost to Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey 1-4 in the 51 kg semi-final bout. However, she was surprised with the split verdict.
Later, Mary took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to question the result. She wrote with the video of the bout, “How and why. Let the world know how much right and wrong the decision is....” She tagged the Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office.

After reaching the semi-finals, Mary had said, "So after winning the quarter-final, I am happy and will try to win the highest medal for the country. I would try my best and hopefully win the gold medal here. I would give my best to enter the finals of the tournament."
