Castes and communities often shape elections in Tamil Nadu. In an exclusive survey conducted by AZ Research Partners, the western part of the state that includes Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Nilgiris, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri, has a large number of people belonging to Gounder and Vellallar communities. 14% of the people from the region say that irregular water supply is the major issue while 12% and 8% say that lack of educational facilities and agricultural water supply are the bigger problems respectively. Compared to 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK's vote share is projected to drop from 45% to 30% in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. DMK will garner support from 24% of the voters from the Western region.
