Bagalkote farmer's family receives auction notice from bank; wife warns of mass suicide

A private bank has sent repeated notices to a farmer's family in Bagalkote, Karnataa to repay the loan, despite orders by the chief minister that farmers loan would be waived off. Hurt by the bank's notice, the family has written to the chief minister and threatened that if this continues, they will be forced to commit mass suicide. They have also requested Kumaraswamy to give them permission for mercy killing instead. Mallavva Ninganura's husband Yamanappa had availed a loan of Rs 5 lakh from Jamakhandi Urban Bank, Rabakavi in 2012. The agriculture loan was taken by pledging the house and farming land. But Yamanappa died of cancer, despite spending Rs 4 lakh on his treatment. Currently, the bank has sent a notice to the family to pay Rs 8,60,000 including interest. The bank has also sent a notice to auction the house and land on December 12. However, the family brought a stay on the auction by requesting the deputy commissioner of Bagalkote. But the bank has sent another notice to auction the house. Thus, the family with ten members has requested the chief minister either to waive off their loan or give them permission for mercy killing.
