Assam killings: ULFA accuses Mamata Banerjee of provocation (Video)

Nov 3, 2018, 5:57 PM IST

Following the horrific Tinsukia mayhem where five people were gunned down, the United Liberation front of India (ULFA) has blamed Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for inciting violence. ULFA honcho Anup Chetia’s statement assumes significance because the outfit initially suspected to be behind the killings not only denied its involvement but also condemned the act of terror.

Since Banerjee took to Twitter to register her objection to the National Register of Citizens (NRC), many Bengalis living in Assam have taken to the streets, reducing the concern of nationality and Assamese domicile to an Assam-versus-Bengal issue.

The Assam Bengali Yuva Federation called a 12-hour bandh yesterday in Tinsukia, protesting the killings, followed by an Assam Bandh today that has seen sporadic violence across the north-eastern state.
