A total of 18 people were operated for cataract at Jaya Hospital in Warangal, Telangana, and they developed infection after the surgery. Seven of them have not regained eyesight even after a second surgery. After infection was found in the eyes of five patients, all 18, who underwent cataract surgery, were summoned for second operation. They found that all of them had developed this infection. Currently, 11 are said to be showing signs of improvement, but seven can't see anything. Currently, the 18 victims are being treated at LV Prasad Eye Hospital in Telangana. It was reported earlier that the mass operations were carried out as per the state scheme of Kanti Velugu. But the hospital clarified that the operation was being conducted under the National Blindness Control of the Centre. The operation section of Jaya Hospital has been sealed by the Health Department and a probe has been ordered. The state government is also contemplating action against the hospital. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities are trying to find out if the infection was caused during the operation or after the operation. Reports suggest that LV Prasad Eye Hospital authorities are  of the opinion that the saline that was used to disinfect the tools to carry out the surgery might have led to this infection.
