The Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisation - Government Employees Organisation (JACTO-GEO) members have launched an agitation in Tamil Nadu. However, some of the protesting teachers are returning home fearing arrests. Already, 150 JACTO-GEO employees have been arrested in Chennai on Thursday. The employees from Ezhilangam and Chennai collectorate are also participating in the strike.

Days after Tamil Nadu government schools reopened following Pongal holidays, the JACTO-GEO members began the indefinite strike on Tuesday demanding the reversal of their contributory pension scheme and payment of arrears. This agitation has left several school students and their parents in a spot of bother with the final exams fast nearing. It is reported that the agitators will stop the strike only after the government fulfils their demands.
