Thoothukudi: Several protests by the residents of Thoothukudi forced the Sterlite copper plant in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi to be shut down in May. However, the Thoothukudi Industrial Suppliers’ Association has petitioned the state chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and industry minister MC Sampath, requesting them to reopen the plant. Now, the plant is set to start functioning again on December 7.

Opposing this, the residents of Thoothukudi held a protest near the Sterlite copper plant and requested the chief minister not to grant permission to reopen the plant.
