Sri Lankan Navy detains 20 Indian fishermen for trespassing on Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy, during a special operation, arrested 20 Indian fishermen and three fishing trawlers belonging to them, for trespassing on Sri Lankan territorial waters on January 12.

Ramanathapuram: Nine fishermen were taken into custody and two fishing trawlers were seized in the seas off the Delft Islands. Meanwhile, 11 fishermen were arrested, and their trawler was impounded in the sea of Thalaimannar. The Indian fishermen were brought to the naval bases; Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters (SLNS) 'Elara' in Karainagar and SLNS ‘Buwaneka’ in Nachchikuda, respectively, following their arrest.

The detained fishermen will be handed over to the Fisheries Inspectors of respective areas for further investigation.
