As Kerala suffers one of its worst-ever calamities with heavy rain and floods, the State is receiving support, solidarity and help from all corners, but there are some people in the society who have their set of weird reasons in place explaining what caused the flood and landslides.
In the past two weeks, heavy rainfall killed at least 324 people and managed to render lakhs homeless. This is the first time Kerala is facing such a condition. According to these critics, this disaster is man-made. No, it's not about environmental damage. There is divine truth behind all this destruction.
The refusal to ban beef in the State has perhaps earned them the 'shaap' of gau-matha (cow), say some. According to them, 'God's Own Country' refused the Gods by having beef. However, let's not forget, there are many animals, including cattle fighting the deluge in Kerala currently.
That's not all. Behind this flood-ravaged State, there are many women, say critics. They allege that the reason for the flood was allowing the entry of women in Sabarimala temple. The court and the Devaswom Board recently lifted the ban on women between the age of 10 and 51. Some went as far as to say that Kerala deserved this situation since it hadn't banned beef. The state has lost Rs 20,000 crore, and over 3 lakh people are being moved into temporary relief camps. 58 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are currently deployed in the State.
