Rajeev Chandrasekhar: 'Judge PM Modi by what he inherited and what he made of it'

Rajya Sabha MP and member of standing committee on finance, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, believes the coming budget will be a positive move towards taking the Indian economy towards expansion which then would fuel welfare schemes and not burden the tax payers.

Moreover, he maintains that NDA inherited a broken economy, which has been rebuilt since 2014. "It’s election season and predictably many people will try and spin the last five years as being not what it is. That is what politics is all about. If you measure the performance of Prime Minister Modi in terms of economy, you have to understand what he started with. He started in 2014 with an economy that was almost bankrupted by the UPA.

For all of their wanted economic management by Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram, they left an economy with zero percent industrial production, record fiscal deficit, galloping inflation for twelve quarters at 9.5%, current account deficit of 45 billion dollars, a banking system that had been wrecked. The reason I am saying all this is to measure we are today we must understand where we started from. I think PM Modi and Arun Jaitley have with full fiscal responsibility rebuilt this economy," he told MyNation.
