Dalit conversion suspected reason for PMK worker's murder

Thanjavur: On Wednesday, tension prevailed in Tirubhuvanam near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, after a former PMK town secretary Ramalingam (48) was hacked to death the previous night allegedly by four men belonging to a minority community.

According to sources, Ramalingam ran the business of renting cooking utensils and tents for weddings and other ceremonies.

On Tuesday morning, PMK's Ramalingam entered into an altercation when he objected to a programme where Dalits were being converted by the Muslim community in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. He was hacked to death later in the night. 

On Tuesday night, a gang of four stopped Ramalingam's van and attacked him in front of his teenage son. Ramalingam was shifted to Kumbakonam government hospital and later moved to Thanjavur Medical college hospital where he was declared brought dead due to excessive bleeding. A case has been registered in Tirubhuvanam police station, and further reports are awaited.
